Hi. Inspiration for wedding or party music? How about your garden? . I love visiting beautiful gardens and flower shows, like this San Francisco Orchid Society (#SForchidsociety) show several years ago. . #TheMagnoliaJazzBand helps people enjoy their weddings and parties, often in beautiful gardens like at #Filoli, #SaratogaSpringsWeddings, #GambleGarden, #HakoneGardens, and #SaratogaFoothillClub. Gardens like these teach me to plan carefully, work persistently, and be patient. . I’m staying at home these days. Since last week, when spring sprang, I’ve been finishing my winter gardening. Pruning, weeding, and raking up leaves.  I love it, and I’m humming Paul McCartney’s famous song: “Doing the garden, Digging the weeds, Who could ask for more?” . How about you — enjoy gardening? Work with plants and flowers? . Curious thoughts flood my mind as I work, making everything feel special. Occasionally I imagine some of my ancestors must have been doing exactly this same thing hundreds or thousands of years ago.  Feeling the same moist soil, seeing the same shoots and buds, smelling the same rich aromas. . Did they ever wonder about THEIR ancestors working in gardens? Did they ever imagined that I’d be thinking of THEM hundreds of years later? Will my descendants think about ME, while they work in their gardens hundreds of years from now? . Interesting, but what’s the point of this story? Simple — for everything I do in the garden, my daydreams suggest more possibilities and create a richer context. . Similarly when I help people selecting their wedding and party music, dreaming “outside the box” as we’re planning can inspire surprising choices and lend greater meaning to each selection. . Thanks for reading. I appreciate your interest and hope you get a few good ideas here. What did you like? Start a conversation -- I'll reply. Promise. . Meanwhile, are you planning a special event? If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, throw a party and include us. Are friends talking about a wedding? Please recommend us. . How can I help you? Hi. How are you coping with COVID-19? Hang on — here’s a related question: . How did you celebrate the end of last year’s holiday season? Thanks to my friends at #SnapFiesta for this photo from several years ago. . Last December 26, Bunch and I celebrated our annual “company” party, and later I took stock of how we did in 2019. . I “Take stock” several times every year — sizing up how I’m doing, where I’ve been, and where I’m going. . Do you “take stock” too? My process helps me stay on track toward larger goals and keep all the things I do in balance. . Last December I seemed to be nicely on track. Or so I believed. Until last week. . Who could have predicted that in the spring of 2020 I’d be “social distancing” and “sheltering-in-place“? I’m rescheduling all weddings and parties in the next few months to — who knows?. . Serious health crises like today’s happen regularly throughout human history — everywhere, unpredictable, and with no warning. . But we’re social animals and we still need to meet each other. People create new ways to stay in touch — VIRTUAL coffee dates, wine-tastings, book clubs, and dinner parties on FaceTime, Zoom, and all the rest. How ironic that our best civilized social habits make us the most vulnerable. . Tomorrow belongs to those lucky among us whose immune system lets us survive today. I hope you and I survive and resume normal life soon. . For me, #theMagnoliaJazzBand plans to continue serving my community, by helping people celebrate at weddings and parties, and by supporting social organizations that make life better for people needing a little extra help. . Meanwhile how about you? How are you coping with the COVID-19 crisis? Stay safe! . Thanks for reading. I appreciate your interest and hope you get a few good ideas here. What did you like? Start a conversation -- I'll reply. Promise. . Meanwhile, are you planning a special event? If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, throw a party and include us. My first wedding of 2020 woulda been this weekend. So I decided to channel my creative energy into a foraged bouquet from our garden. I tried a different shape technique and love how it turned out!

Thinking about postponing or cancelling your wedding due to Covid-19? How about a small ceremony now and a bigger party later? Many of our couples who chose to elope have opted for this format. This is a chance to have it both ways: an intimate ritual on the one hand as well as a bigger party later on the other.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #jewishceremony #weddingseason #loveauthentic #bohowedding #theknot #elopement #brideandgroom #smpweddings #shesaidyes #realweddings #californiawedding #weddingchicks #risingtidesociety #loveintentionally #destinationwedding #destinationweddingphotographer #featuremeoncewed #austrianweddingvideographer #elopementphotographer #bohobride #intimatewedding #greenweddingshoes #weddingvideographer #weddingincalifornia #belleandsass #weddingvideo #femalefilmmaker #californiawedding #paloaltowedding #jewishwedding

Hi. Planning a small party for St Patrick’s Day? . Maybe not right away, but whenever the time is right, how will you select the perfect party music? . For EVERY holiday — Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and all the rest. . Selecting party music is really very easy!  We help people do it all the time. For example, here’s #theMagnoliaJazzBand years ago at a Christmas party for the staff at #GoodSamaritanHospital, in San Jose. . How about you? Planning a party like this one later this year? How would you decide what songs we should play here? . Here’s what you need to do:  First, imagine the perfect festive atmosphere for your party.  Whenever you’re planning any celebration, you’ll want to make your party LOOK right and SOUND right for your guests. . Then, once you decide your goal, keep in mind that you’re using music to help “make it happen”. In other words, to get everyone “in the mood”. When everyone is glad to be there, your music will make the party a huge success. . I often write about planning party music, and there is no one ideal song for every mood, every elegant wedding reception, casual cocktail party, or high-energy dance party. . Obviously.  Too many different moods.  Too many options. Every event you plan has it’s own purpose.  Let THAT inspire the mood you’ll create for your guests. . Want a tip?  FIRST, understand the MOOD you want to create at your party.  Only THEN, explore for the most appropriate songs. . Couldn’t be simpler, right?  How about you? How do YOU like to select party music? While on a Sunday walk with my husband, I spotted this Star Magnolia blossom. Did you know there are over 210 species of magnolia that differ in size, shape, and color of the flower? All beautiful in their own way. 😍 • Which background is your fav, 1 or 2?

How to battle the insecurity in times of quarantine? Should you cancel your wedding? Will it suffice to reduce the number of guests? Or find a new date in the hopes it will all have settled by then? Many of us are struggling right now with making the right decision. Whichever way you will decide do not forget what ultimately matters. Hi. “What songs do you love?” That’s usually my reply when someone asks for music. . How about you? What’s your favorite song? But first, a story about one of my favorites: . Sidney Bechet was the first New Orleans musician I ever heard.  His “Jelly Roll Blues” was the first tune on a small LP of early jazz my father gave me. . I was fourteen years old, and Bechet’s glorious tone thrilled me.  What feeling!  He shouted and wailed just like the rhythm & blues musicians on the radio. . I played cornet in the school band.  John Philip Sousa. I began playing my parts with lots of feeling — with a warm tone and a rapid vibrato, wide as a house. . I’m sure I sounded bizarre and corny to my pals, who idolized the beboppers of the day. But I loved it.  I enjoyed imitating someone I admired — who helped inspire my love of music. . Bechet opened a window for me.  I listened to music in terms of the impression he made. He helped set my standards. . I’m glad I learned early on to play with emotion. It’s still serving me well these days. . #TheMagnoliaJazzBand helps people enjoy their special events. Like on the patio at this reception for the Silicon Valley Business Journal #siliconvalleybusinessjournal #SVBJ at the #SiliconValleyCapitalClub #svcapitalclub. . Our music “touches the heart”. Makes the guests feel good, glad to be there. . I’ve learned that nothing is more effective than music played with feeling. People respond to the emotion, the passion driving the music. . So when I help someone search for wedding and party music, I urge them to start with their own favorite songs.  And to be sure their musicians play with passion.
